Overview

A functional teak deck chair designed and built independently, using upcycled wood and repurposed curtain fabric. Documented with load-bearing calculations, anthropometric research, and a full construction dossier.

The Problem

Most deck chairs either fail structurally over time (notches cut into the frame weaken with use) or sacrifice comfort for portability. Sustainable alternatives at a mid-range price point don't really exist.

The Approach

Mortise and tenon joinery for structural integrity, a separate notched adjustment piece to protect the main frame, and a fabric attachment system using aluminum rods and slotted wood inserts allowing easy replacement without adhesives or stapling.
